Wide slab flooring is a high quality, economical suspended concrete floor construction using long prestressed concrete floor slabs (or planks) supported by either masonry walls or a supporting frame structure in steel or precast concrete. Suitable for all floor levels from ground to roof, this rapid flooring solution is ideal where long spans and/or high load bearing capacities are required minimising costs and production time.
At ACP (Concrete) Ltd, our standard floor slabs are 1200mm wide maximising transport efficiency and are available in standard 150mm or 200mm depths. They also are also available as solid, 3 or 5 core floor slabs.
The casting system of the Wide Slab Flooring also enables the manufacture of special width floor slabs cast to size rather than cut down from stock as is typical of traditional Hollowcore flooring systems. Openings for services, pipes and ducting can also be cast into the precast concrete floor slabs at manufacturing stage rather than cut out on site, ensuring better finish and less down time during construction. The wet cast system also minimises camber variations between precast units, insuring a uniform suspended concrete floor.
Concrete floor slabs are suitable for use in achieving the requirements of Building Regulations Part A relating to disproportionate collapse. They are manufactured to comply with the requirements of the current Robust Details E-FC-1, E-FC-4 ,and E-FC-5, E-FC-8, E-FC-9 and E-FC-11-17 inclusive.
Available as supply only or supply and install, all our prestressed concrete floor beams are delivered nationwide from our factories in Workington, Cumbria.

High Performance at Low Cost - Part 1
At ACP (Concrete) Ltd, our prestressed floor slabs (or planks) are manufactured offsite in controlled factory environment conditions to recognised industry standards of the current Robust Details E-FC-1, E-FC-4 ,and E-FC-5, E-FC-8, E-FC-9 and E-FC-11-17 inclusive..
Our prestressed concrete floor slabs are suitable for use in achieving the requirements of Building Regulations Part A relating to disproportionate collapse. Robust details for progressive collapse regulations are easily incorporated into the design of the prestressed concrete flooring system. ACP (Concrete) Ltd offers several solutions to suit your site-specific requirements.
Wet cast from high quality steel moulds using quality assured engineering grade concrete (60 N/mm²), guarantees the quality and performance of all our prestressed concrete flooring products. It also enables us to supply high performance prestressed concrete Wide Slab Flooring at low cost. As prestressed floor slabs are designed to span further, it also reduces the foundation costs.
High Performance at Low Cost - Part 2
The casting system of the Wide Slab Flooring also enables the manufacture of special width floor slabs cast to size rather than cut down from stock as is typical of traditional Hollowcore flooring systems.
Openings for services, pipes and ducting can also all be cast into the prestressed concrete floor slabs at manufacturing stage rather than cut out on site, ensuring better finish and less down time during construction. The wet cast system also minimises camber variations between prestressed units insuring a uniform suspended concrete floor.
Available as supply only or supply and install, all our prestressed concrete floor beams are delivered nationwide from our factories in Workington, Cumbria.
Fast and Easy Installation
Prestressed concrete flooring is delivered to site ready to install and ready to use without costly site delays for curing. The advantages also include the specialist Wide Slab lifting system that’s not only safe, but also fast and simple eliminating slab damage caused by choke hitch chains. Lifting inserts are cast into the units during production. These lifting points are then used to handle the planks within the factory and once again on-site.
The Wide Slab floor lifting system also eliminates the need to “bar” individual prestressed floor beams into final position as is typical of Hollowcore floors lifted with chains or beam clamps. Accurate first-time placement means the concrete floor slab is in its final position before the crane unhooks.
ACP (Concrete) Ltd.’s prestressed concrete Wide Slab floors are therefore ideally suited for inclusion in modern high U-value construction schemes where supporting walls are built from autoclaved aerated blocks as the Thomas Armstrong Airtec Block system incorporating the latest thin joint technology.
Minimize Excavations at Ground Floor
The suspended floor system offers potential to minimize excavations when used at ground floor level a particular benefit where excavated material must be removed from site.
Prestressed concrete floor units are also ideal for suspended flooring to subsequent levels, being quickly and safely installed to provide an instant safe platform for following trades.
Acoustic Floor
ACP prestressed concrete floors are specifically manufactured to comply with the new approved Document E, 2003 Edition – Resistance to the passage of sound. The dense concrete slab used in the ACP Wide Slab system has benefits in acoustic performance over Hollowcore flooring.
Fire Resistance
Precstressed concrete floors also exhibit excellent and fire resistance properties. The dense nature of the product eliminates possible fire spread through hollow cores.
Grouting
Wide slab Flooring are designed to have a special shear key detail on the long edge. This joint is designed to receive a grout infill without additional shuttering to the soffit prior to installation of insulation and floor finishes.
A sand/cement screed can be applied to the grouted suspended concrete floor to form a robust finished floor or base for ceramic floor finishes.
Smooth Soffit Finish
Suspended concrete floors constructed with ACP’s Wide slab flooring can be designed to eliminate additional ceiling finishes in many cases. A smooth soffit finish to the prestressed floor is a benefit of the wet cast system and is suitable to receive a direct paint finish.
Suitable for Underfloor Heating systems
The prestressed concrete floor is suitable for underfloor heating systems providing a high thermal mass in addition to the benefits of a concrete floor solution.

Precast Concrete Wide Slab Flooring can be installed directly from the delivery vehicle using a crane to its final position due to each unit being referenced individually to suit the approved ACP (Concrete) Limited design drawing.
The units are lifted in using the lifting pins cast into the units and placed in their final position.
Once all the units have been installed the C25 concrete grout is placed in the joints to tie the floor together.
