Correct storage of grain and other food crops is essential to preserve the quality of the crop and maximise/maintain its value. A well-designed crop store will protect the crop from damp and vermin, be robust enough to withstand the knocks from out loading machinery, and flexible enough to adapt to changing demands on the farm business. Precast, prestressed concrete walls provide a cost effect solution to fulfil all these requirements.

Manufactured in controlled factory conditions using Quality Assured concrete, both precast and prestressed concrete wall panels provide a known performance, unlike traditional in-situ ‘poured’ walls reducing the need for specialist and costly engineering input.

Whether you are refurbishing an existing building, constructing an on farm grain store or building a large co-operative crop storage facility, with three different wall products and a wide range of sizes ACP has concrete wall panels to suit almost all requirements.  Our unrivalled experience can help you to make the right choice between horizontal panels, vertical cantilever walls and portable / free standing grain walling.

There any many factors to consider in designing grain storage system and ACP’s knowledgeable staff can help throughout the process.

The following questions should be considered when determining the best solution:

  • What wall height is required? What is the maximum bay span in the building?
  • The crop to be stored, grain, oilseed rape, potatoes or onions, all have different densities and storage properties.
  • What is the anticipated storage profile? Level filled or surcharged? ie. Will it be heaped up in the middle, above the height of the walls?
  • Will grain stirrers be used? These impose additional loads on the walls and must be taken into consideration when choosing the wall type.
  • Are you looking to store grain/crops on both sides of the walling? If so the wall must be designed to be ‘double loading’.
  • Do you think you may need to reconfigure your storage layout at a later date?
