FAQs
We are part of the Thomas Armstrong Group
ACP (Concrete) Ltd prestressed concrete beam and block floors provide a quick, easy and robust solution in the construction of ground floors as well as multi-storey buildings. This cost-effective flooring system offers a fast installation without the need for expensive plant or specialist skilled labour and can be installed in adverse weather condition.
This high quality, performance, durable and robust prestressed floor solution is ideal for ground, first floor and subsequent floors within domestic, residential, commercial, retail and industrial buildings. Ideal for suspended concrete floors, as well as supporting partition walling using double beam layouts, Beam and Block floors are constructed using prestressed concrete T-beams which are supported by standard precast concrete blocks (perimeter walls and internal loading bearing walls). Individual concrete blocks are then laid/infilled between the prestressed beams to form an instant floor.
At ACP (Concrete) Ltd, we offer 2 standard depths of 150m and 215mm. All our beam and block floor beams are designed and manufactured to Eurocode 2 industry standards and are all CE marked.

High Performance at Low Cost
There are many advantages of using a prestressed concrete Flooring over traditional construction methods:

At ACP (Concrete) Ltd, our prestressed floor beams are manufactured offsite in controlled factory environment conditions to recognised industry standards (EC2).
Wet cast from high quality steel moulds using quality assured engineering grade concrete (60 N/mm²), guarantees the quality and performance of all our concrete flooring products. It also enables us to supply high performance concrete floor beams at low cost. As prestressed floor beams are designed to span further it also reduces the foundation costs.
Available as supply only or supply and install, all our prestressed concrete floor beams are delivered nationwide from our factories in Workington, Cumbria and Manchester.
Fast and Simple Installation
This popular method of concrete floor construction is designed with a simple, easy, fast installation and avoids the need for expensive plant or specialist skilled labour; therefore, block and beam floors make an ideal cost-effective solution.
Our Beam and Block floor system also offers savings in both time and cost at ground floor level compared with other flooring systems by minimizing groundworks.
The suspended beam and block floor system offers the potential to minimise excavations, particularly beneficial where excavated material must be removed from site, therefore, reducing your project timescales and saving you money.
Grouting
A wet grout system (1:4, cement:sand) can be used to bond the block and beam floor beams together prior to installation of insulation and floor finishes.
A sand/cement screed can be applied to the grouted block and beam flooring system for a robust finished floor or base for ceramic floor finishes. Openings within the floor for service ducts and pipes are easily and cheaply included in the scheme.
Flexibility
We offer professional, comprehensive and reliable prestressed concrete design and installation service on all our products.
Available to all our clients and customers, these services give you the peace of mind of working closely with an experienced company you can trust to deliver every stage of your project.
Weather independent
The installation of beam and block floors is generally weather independent, reducing site delays and ensuring construction schedule is maintained.
Immediate safe floor and working area
With the easy installation, beam and block flooring can quickly provide a safe platform for construction workmen as a base to continue further construction work if required.
Unaffected by draught proof, damp, rot or vermin
Block and beam flooring is completely unaffected by damp, rot or vermin – concrete beams are clean, mould free, and last longer than most other alternatives. Therefore, resulting in a great solution for concrete flooring.
Low Cost Maintenance
Due the robust and high durability of prestressed concrete floors there is low cost maintenance required over the lifespan of block and beam floor system.
Sustainability
The high thermal mass inherent with prestressed concrete floor construction has benefits for the finished buildings energy consumption. Prestressed concrete flooring also exhibits excellent noise reduction and 1hr fire resistance, when constructed with a fire lined plasterboard ceiling, making them ideal for a wide range of applications such as domestic dwellings, nursing homes, offices spaces and most other requirements.
Suitable for Underfloor Heating systems
Concrete beam and block floors are suitable for underfloor heating systems providing a high thermal mass in addition to the benefits of a concrete floor solution.
Beam and Block Components - Part 1
Beam and block floors are constructed using prestressed concrete beams supporting standard precast concrete blocks spanning between T-beams. Individual concrete blocks are laid between the prestressed beams to form an instant floor.
ACP (Concrete) Ltd's concrete floor beams are ideal for use with standard 440 x 215 x 100 concrete blocks in either 7.0N/mm² or 3.5N/mm² compressive strengths which are available from Thomas Armstrong Concrete Blocks.
Looking for a greater Insulation Performance.
ACP’s prestressed concrete floor beams are also used in the TETRiS® Thermal Insulation Block Floor System or Stylite T-Beam Suspended Floor Insulation to achieve even greater insulation performance.
Beam and Block Components - Part 2
Specialist ceiling clips can be supplied to reduce time in the ceiling installation to the underside of the suspended concrete floor.
Closure blocks to suit 530mm and 305mm concrete beam spacing are available from stock as are slip blocks to speed floor edge construction.
